Profile: Rob Hart

Personal background
I'm a chemistry graduate student in Indiana. I work on optically interesting (highly non-linear) tellurite-based glasses and glass ceramics. In my free time I like to play with my American Staffordshire Terrier, Nellie, and hang out with my fiancee, Denise (we are getting married in September). I'm looking forward to graduating and getting a life :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does extratresstrial life exist? I don't know. Certainly the Drake Equation makes things seem promising, but Fermi's comment about the question is equally compelling ("I don't believe there are advanced civilizations in the galaxy because they haven't contacted us yet."). But Einstein said, "If you knew the answer you wouldn't have to do the experiment." I guess that's why I run SETI@home. We have all this data and we simply won't know until we analyse it.
