Personal background
I'm from California but live primarily in Ohio now, where I am a psychology major attending Oberlin College. I'm pretty dorky and so are all my friends. Besides doing lots of psychology kind of stuff, I do a lot of dancing and I'm interested in Spanish and anthropology. Neuroscience as well, but not quite as much, and it kind of kicks my butt. At one point in high school I was really interested in astronomy, cosmology, and I read a lot about Mars, etc. That was what kind of got me into the whole SETI thing I guess. Since then I've discovered that I'm not so much of a physics or astrophysics person, and although I also thought it would be very cool to be an astronaut, that didn't really fit in so well with other things I wanted in my life. I'd still love to go into space in some kind of research capacity, but who knows!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I definitely think extraterrestrial life exists, but I have no idea if we'll ever find it. I tend to think probably not. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing though. We'd probably mess up if we ever [i]did find extraterrestrial life... I run SETI@home because it would be neat if we did find something, and even if we don't it's nice to contribute to the cause. Plus, like many college students, I leave my computer on a lot so it might as well be doing something useful and interesting.
