Personal background
At 33 I feel that I've experienced more than the usual. I've travelled the world several times over, from the Middle East and Europe to Russia. The culture of other countries always fascinates me with it's uniqueness, and I can only imagine what the culture of an extra-terrestrial species would be like.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Somewhere in the distant vastness of space someone glances up at the sky and can't help but wonder if life exists elsewhere. Perhaps one day they will find our little blue planet, or maybe we will find them. Of course life exists on other planets somewhere out there. Nature rarely creates something just once then is done with it, especially in the incomprehensible vastness of the Universe. The question is will we be able to recognize or perceive life that is advanced enough to overcome space and time by coming to Earth? If one of our jets somehow flew back in time, flying over the heart of Europe a thousand years ago and beaming out radio waves trying to communicate, what would the response be? Panic or disbelief (perhaps denial by those not witnessing first hand), and maybe curious wonderment at best. That is just a thousand years difference which is insignificant in cosmic terms.

Of course it's not hopeless though. If or when advanced extra-terrestrials want to be found I imagine that they would be smart enough to use our communication means and SETI will probably be one of the first to receive it. And still we must search for radio waves from planets who were at a similar level of development as us when they sent them. Mostly, people need to keep an open mind and constantly think of new ways to somehow perceive the type of communications that will be used by advanced species. A million years from now will we still be using radio frequencies or will some revolutionary Quantum transmitter replace all the clutter in the airwaves? We must think ahead to find what is probably so far ahead of us. And when we're ready I think the world will be in for a wonderful surprise...

I do this because when I was young my cousin and I witnessed a very real, very clear UFO. I would love nothing more than to confirm their existence for everyone else.
