Personal background
Hi, my Name is Michael and I was born in 1966 in Vienna, Austria.

I'm working as a Trader with the largest Austrian Bank ;).

My Hobbies are Chess and Hardware (one can combine theese two pretty well :D - machines became terribly fast over the last years - where are the times when I was able to beat them on a regular basis?) My tournament rating is about 2100 ELO.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Do you think extraterrestrial life exists?

Well, yes! :D (what else would I do around here, if I wouldnt?) But I think that the chances to discover it with lightspeed limited technologies are very poor! The period whilst which a Civilisation is capable and willing (!) to transmit powerfull lightspeed signals is (for a number of potential reasons) very short, if it occurs at all! Afaik, we didnt to it (yet)?! - and a discussion with an Alien could turn out to be very boring - over a distance of a few hundred Lightyears...;)

The chances to discover extraterrestrial life will dramatically increase if we discover a method of transmitting signals at higher speeds. If that exists - this will be the way of choice to get Contact! (if not, we will probably never find proof whether we are alone (or not ;))
