I was born born in Houston, TX and raised all around the state and country. Currently I'm a grad student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I've been following SETI@Home project for some time now and have only recently begun to participate. I am very excited about the prospects. As a side note, I worked for NASA through Lockheed Martin Space Operations, and I think it's unfortunate that the US space program waste so much money on projects like the ISS when that money could be better spent on deep space probes and SETI.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There is no doubt that ET exist. But I don't think we should transmit a beacon. While I support the search for other beacons I don't think we should advertise ourselve anymore than we already do before we know more about what is out there.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
