Personal background
I have always been an odd character, not necessaraly strange, but definatley diffrent. at the age of eighteen i was asked to join a band, i said ok. as it turns out it was an 80's butt rock band and my band mates were easily twice my age. thay then hit me with a surprise, we became associated with the uso doing tours overseas on U.S. military bases. this lasted for about a year and a half. then the guitarist and I got into it and i quit. i then found a position at a local company called Longaberger baskets and worked my butt of to buy my own computer. currently i am liad off and spend most of my time learning about seti@home's add-on's.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe extraterrestrial life exists but i doubt humans themselves will discover it soon. I believe that thay have a better chance of discovering us. if think about our goverments structure and how thay over analize everything, even if we did find a planet with extraterrestrial we would first spend years trying to see what type of structure thay live by. to determine weather or not thay would purposefully or accidently pose a threat to human existance. if a threat were discovered i doubt that we were to ever know about it.
A beacon could be a good idea, if it were interperated properly. if it were to be found by a peacefull lifeform thay first would check to see how viable the information were. now what if thay were to come here when a war were going on. would you want to associate with a creature that cant even keep peace with itself?
Like i said before i believe that there is extraterrestial life, and thay may possibily be monitering us. but i dont think thay will make contact untill thay see that we are more capable of working together. unless their here to kill us, then their going to wait for a major distraction so thay can take us off guard.
I run SETI@home because its fun. and its also intresting to think about how much information can be gained if we all work together.
