Personal background
Hi Neighbor,

I say neighbor since SETI brings us all together to one place from all parts of the world. My part of the world is in Greenville, North Carolina where I work as a software programmer. I'm not a hard core programmer like the folks at SETI, I mainly do business applications in Clipper/dBase and Visual Basic/SQL. Well, have a nice day and if you see me on the street say hi.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think ET life exists?

Sure, why not. I'm a Christian, but the bible never says humans are the only beings in the universe, so I think it is arrogant for us to assume we are alone (kinda like the folks in Europe who thought the world was flat (many moons ago)).

When will us folks discover "it"?

Man, I hope it is not until we have people living full time on Mars. Maybe by then people can grasp the idea of "little green men". Right now I think folks would freek out.

Possible Benefits?

Well, umm, It will most likely spark creativity and inventions for space (normal people) and personal defense (remember the folks freeking in the above question).

Should we transmist a beacon?

I do not see a point in it. It takes too long for the signal to go any where with the technology we currently have and odds are we will be in space before the signal reaches anything, so do what ever makes you happy.

What information should we send

Well, I we should lie to them. Send them information to make them think we are centuries ahead of where we are now. That will either make the not want to invade us or it might be accurate when it reaches them.

Why do I run SETI@home?

Because when I am goofing off I know at least my computer is doing real work. And I think it is a bunch of crap that the government is not funding this so I am willing to donate my cpu time to pick up the slack of the government.

Any Suggestions?

Nope.
