Profile: Geoff Knobl

Personal background
I'm a computer jockie at Virginia Tech. I wanted to work with computers since elementary school but didn't really think it would be a job. While frustrating, it seems I've ended up with a job that should provide a steady living until I retire. And it is fun most of the time to boot.

I have several hobbies, including road biking, performing and listening to music, being a cheap audiophile, and cooking.

I married Abbie Thye on May 20, 2000 and now have a child, Garrett Michael born on March 24th, 2002. I'll change my picture sometime to show him off.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I heard about SETI years ago, probably from Carl Sagan's Cosmos series and jumped at the chance to use SETI@home when I found out it existed many moons ago.

I run SETI@home because no one else around here is using the extra cycles!

SETI itself is a worthwhile search that, while still similar to searching for a needle in a haystack, is better than no attempt to do so. I believe other-worldly intelligences exist and feel we should make an effort at locating them. Of course, that's dangerous, but so is life.
