Personal background
Heya SETI@home community!

I'm 22 years old and live in Germany where I was also born in 1982.
I work at a small computer store where I'm doing an on-the-job training. After that I hope to be able to set up an own business as soon as possible. Maybe a SETI-store...? Nah, just kidding. But who knows... If E.T. decides to call us, it might be a great chance for many people. Let's hope he'll call soon! ;-)
I also spend much of my free time in front of the computer, doing some graphic- or webdesign.
One of my biggest interests is the NBA. My favorite team are the Indiana Pacers, while my fav ballplayer is Reggie Miller (of course).
Other sports I like are football, soccer and Formula 1.
At the moment I am single, but hoping that it will change soon. Still waiting for a girl to share my thoughts, feelings and the passion for SETI of course. ;-)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Since 2001 I prticipate in this awesome project.
The movie "Contact" (starring Jodie Foster) started my enthusiasm for SETI.
I know many people think that movie is one of the worst ever made, but I absolutely disagree. In my opinion it's a very emotional vision of what could be out there...

There is probably no doubt that we are not alone.
As said in the movie : It would really be a waste of space.
At the moment we're just missing the proper technical equipment to discover a bigger part of our universe. If we're lucky, one of the civilizations out there does already have that technique and is on the way to our tiny solar system.
Of course there is the danger that the extraterrestrial species are not peaceful and want to conquer our planet. Though I believe this is not very probable. Even if they dont have feelings like moral and love, they wouldnt have any benefit of destroying us or our planet. There are too many planets with same conditions, but without citizens who would respond to an attack.

I will continue supporting SETI@home as much as I can. Luckily I got an Athlon XP now, which can calculate much more work units than my old one.
I even had to stop calculating units for a while, cause my old CPU always overheated due to a bad cooler. Now I'm back in business and try to get a few older cpmponents to build a mini-cluster for SETI calculations.

I can encourage everyone to participate in the SETI@home project. Tell all your friends about it and they'll fall in love with it. ;-)
I got already many friends of mine to install the client and help the community.
It doesnt hurt, just help...
