Personal background |
Hi, I'm a 40-year-old computer maniac hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm married, but no children yet. I used to belong to a medieval re-creation society (get in armor, sword fighting, that kind of stuff), but a bad back has put an end to my career as a champion of justice. I did manage to receive my knighthood before things got too bad, though. Other hobbies include building model kits, gas-powered radio controlled cars, science fiction of all kinds, WWII online air combat and raising my herd of three doggies. (You may not think three is a herd, but come over some day and you will understand!)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I do indeed believe that life exists elsewhere in the universe. I think that, even though the odds my be astronomical (pun intended) that the correct conditions exist for life, in an infinite universe odds have little meaning. I wouldn't presume to estimate the time required to find it. There are too many variables in the equation, and even if we did find evidence, there is no assurance that we will be able to comprehend it. As for the benefits or dangers of such a contact, again I would have to say that in a universe of infinite possibilities, the benefits and dangers would also be infinite. Perhaps my love of science fiction has jaded my outlook, but my approach would be cautious gathering of information.
I run Seti@home for a myriad of reasons. I find the idea of extraterrestrial intelligence absolutely fascinating. I like the idea that I can be a part of a project this large. My computers are rarely shut down, why not put all that technology to work doing something for the betterment of my world?
