A 1982 BSEE graduate from Penn State. Rose to Department head while working for one company 18 years as an electrical engineer in manufacturing automation and machine control. The Department was eliminated and I lost my job to offshore manufacturing in 1999. So I started my own business selling Ukrainian art and consulted in machine design. Its great to be your own boss and not have to deal with company politics.
I like to ride my bike, make Ukrainian Easter Eggs (Pysanky), mess with computers, do wood working and travel. Been to Ukraine 3 times and the skys are fantastic in the country. All the lights go out for miles and there are no street lights, few automobiles and clear clean air. Its great to just lay down outside and observe the stars and wonder if there is another being, on another planet looking back at me, wondering the same thing.

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

Just wanted to note that I had over 6000 hours on my previous account (atuhq) with almost 200 work units. But my ISP went out of business and the email acounts are now dead. I lost my password and no way to get it back. So on Sept 5th 2003, we start again.
I think there are other civilizations on far away worlds. There just has to be. Its too narrow minded to think otherwise. Although, I don't think that we have been visited by other beings yet. Although, some corporate executives act as though they are from another planet. Light year distances for space travel , if it does exist, would have to be developed by a highly advanced species. If our own world is any example, to get to this stage and not devastate the planet with war and waste valuable time and resources would be a miracle. If a visiting interplanetary traveler would be friend or foe, you could probably flip a coin. Although, the more I think about, I believe that the Creator of this vast universe was very smart by placing large distances between planets of inteligent life.
However, it is important to have a program like SETI. If the mysteries of life and the sollutions to all of our problems here on Earth are now being beamed to us from some distant star, I sure would like to hear about it.
One thing I always wanted to know, if you did find a strong signal, what would happpen next? Would the data be available to everyone to try to decrypt or would the US Gov step in and do the conspiracy theory thing? |
