Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I believe extraterrestrial life exist, the beleive the larger question is whether it exist in a form understandable to us.

Look about you, look at the variety of life which exists on earth and ask what percentage of it we can communicate with. In fact, looking only at humans, how well does the average person understand and communicate with people of other cultures - even if a common language is shared.

This then delves into the real issue - should we transmit a beacon. Short answer is - we already do. Every time we send out a space probe with a map back to us, ever time we send the latest TV program around the world or transmit a microwave signal to an orbiting starlight we do.

The larger question to ask is; are we, as a species, ready to for what might answer such a beacon? Before you answer “yes” to fast, think about the cultural issues which divide us - as a who are of the same species. Think how the average joe acts when someone from another country or skin color moves next door… now ask youself what would happen if the ‘thing’ moved next door…… Could be interesting - no?
