Personal background
Hi! I am a 52 year young computer consultant from NJ. Ever since i was very young, i have walked around at night looking at the stars. I have tripped too many times to count doing this. I have always been interested in Science and especially astronomy and ran a local Astronomy club for 4 years. One of the greatest thrills I have ever had with my telescope was the first time I spotted comet Haley in early December 1985. I had wiated my whole life for that moment. One time when asked by a friend what I would wish for if given 1 wish. With barely a moments hesitation I said to meet a being from another planet. Well, that may not happen in my lifetime, but with the work done by Seti, I hope that someday soon we will have the absolute proof of life out in the stars. They are out there!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, i absolutely believe in extrterrestrial life. I believe within the next 10 years SETI will identify an intelligent radio source giving proof to the world. The benefit that such proof may give is the hopeful coming together of humankind. To know we are not alone will be humbling, but i believe it will help bring the communities of the world together. I do not believe that any danger may come from the positive proof of extraterrestrial life. Should some civilization out in the cosmos detect the radio signals radiating from earth, and if they are advanced enough to overcome the limits of traveling faster than light and visit earth, they will be corresponingly advanced from a moral perspective and pose no threat to us.

Yes I believe that we should transmit a beacon. I am not a linguist and do not know how to begin to communicate beyond basic math functions but even the transmission of prime numbers will at least prove to the SETIs on other worlds that they are not alone and maybe then they will transmit their own beacon in our direction.

I run SETI@home because it is a worthwhile use of the CPU power that would otherwise be wasted. You need to approach MicroSoft and have SETI@home be built into Windows and do the same for Apple.
