Personal background
Born 1970 in Cologne, Germany - I am a computer and internet professional today. I do screendesign, database programming and multimedia consulting in my own agency.

I am a complete tech maniac trying and buying everything a can get a hand on, running aroung with lots of little gadgets like palm computers [got three of'em], fancy handys, gsm antennas, radio scanners, a.s.o [lucky me, my wife does not freak out on that ;-)]

Other hobbies? Oh yes! If i could leave my desk, my computers and servers alone [even leave my whole bunch of computer games untouched] i grab my golfbag and head on to the green or playing gits and bass in a band, writing songs and doing home recordings.

There's a lot to do ;-) After my daughter was born, though, I found myself even more comfortable visiting zoos and crawling through a LEGO universe or chatting along with "Mr. Bear".

Music I listen to? Well, there's nothing special it's really ALL. From RAMSTEIN to EMINEM, from Bruce Springsteen to Bjork, from Wagner to Beethoven, I listen to everything. Yes, even Country ;-)

Well, that's my profile. I still gotta write some lines about SETI@home and get back to work...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
First of all: they do exist! I am pretty sure about that. But will mankind discover them at all? Nobody knows if we have not already been discovered by a lot of other intelligent life forms. They might just have found us to be too boring - too agressive - too stupid - who knows? They might just have dropped by in the early 50s doing an entry in the galactical "Real Blackhole List" that the earth is not worth visiting anymore and that any contact is prohibited for the next 5 billion years.

Transmitting signals? Mhh, tough question. The problem I see is that anything delivered to no particular destination could cause unforseen results and - even worse - could be misunderstood or even be fatal to other liveforms. We don't know if they are able to communicate the way we do or if radio signals might be harmful or not.

Any signal transmitted over billion of lightyears could be interpreted as an act of aggression. Just imagine some other lifeforms are communicating throught electro magnetic pulses (EMP) - send to earth could cause all our technical equipment to go down. Would we really see that as an friendly approach to us? I guess not.

To avoid an interstellar war - I would suggest to listen carefully to everything around us. Little steps towards an galactical interchange between humans and other lifeforms are better than to rush into something we could not reverse!

In my opinion SETI is the best thing we can to at present. Go on exploring the universe - I'll give all my CPU-Power to do so.
