Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. They must. Will humans discover them, not in our lifetime. We have yet been able to establish communications with species on our own planet, the planet we share with multiple species with advanced communications that we have yet to understand. If we do contact ET's it will be on their terms not ours. It should be a eye opening enviroment, unfortuantely I do not personally feel that our Government in its current condition and frame of thinking should represent this planet, nor a religious person. it is highly unlikely that ET will understand religion as humans do/did/will since it seems to change daily, nor will they be able to understand the politcal mentality. Should we transmit a Beacon, why not. Give people some hope. the odds of it succeeding is 0% we presently do not have the technology or power requirements available to transmit sufficiently. We are limited in band widths, mentality, and greed. why do I run seti at home? Why not. I am absolutely sure that life exists outside our little planet, simply from a scientific stand point. So If we hit that 1 in the infinite odds and are sucessful it will be because ET has been looking for us to do so. I do not believe we could comprehend what any other species is like outside our own planet. Life is too diverse. But then again....................................
