Personal background |
I am a 38 year old computer programmer and consultant who recently moved from Los Angeles to the Lansing, Michigan area. For work, I enjoy developing SQL Server database applications with Access front-ends for small- to medium-sized businesses. I wrote a neat little Web site called http://www.convertit.com for doing measurement conversions, currency conversions, looking up world time, etc. I'm married with one 2-year-old boy. My hobby is experimenting with my Windows and Linux PCs, learning more about computers, reading, watching some TV. I am currently running the command-line version of the SETI@home software on the following PCs: 1.5MHz Pentium 4 running Win XP, 1.2MHz Duron running Win 2000, 1.0MHz Duron running Mandrake 8.1, 600MHz Crusoe running Win ME, and 533MHz Celeron running Win 98.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I think that extraterrestrial life does exist, lots of it, way far away! We probably won't discover it in my lifetime, but when we do, it will be through a radio beacon probably. The possible benefits are great, like major scientific advancement, and I do not think the dangers are too great. Yes, we should send a radio beacon for others to find, and we should send something that is unmistakably man-made. |
