Personal background
I started using SETI@home to participate in the experiment of shared computing and I like the thought of keeping the computers busy when I am not using them.

As of 2005 I am 55 years old, served in the US Armed services 1969-75, Lead Lineman with Virginia Power 1975-present in Virginia Beach, VA, three 2-year degrees at Tidewater Community College in GS, EE, and Sociology. I hope to retire this year and get a life.

I am an Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator. I started with the Maryland Slow Net and the National Traffic System and I am now a 2 station PMBO with the global amateur network WinLink 2000 which serves world wide sailing vessels and RV's with internet access to email and weather related services.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think SETI is worthwhile and yet, I wonder if our logic is correct?

Listening is always good, but are we listening in the right place or in the right way? After all, we have been "listening" to the other creatures on the planet since our beginnings and we cannot yet communicate with any of them in their language. How smart are we?
The universe is not benevolent! Maybe we will hear something that will wake us up to that fact.
