Personal background
I am a junior Communications/Philosophy double major here at R-MWC. My hobbies include web design, drawing, computer graphics, doing goofy dances, making beaded jewelry, laughing, and general mischief.

I discovered the SETI@home project while doing research for a Communications paper on peer-to-peer networking. I thought it seemed like something the Science-Fiction and Fantasy club might be interested in, so I contacted the club officers to suggest the formation of an R-MWC SETI@home team. Tristin (the VP) set everything up, and here we all are!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I think extraterrestrial life is a near certainty, although intelligent life is probably very rare.

2. If we want to encounter alien civilizations we should send out a beacon to them. They may have better ways of travelling to visit us than we would have to visit them, but first we have to let them know we're here! Since a complicated message would be difficult for us to transmit and even harder for them to decode, our first "hello" should probably be as simple and distinct as possible.

3. I find the workings of SETI@home more immediately interesting than the goal of the project itself. I think this sort of distributed computing will play a huge role in shaping the future of communications technology. I am pleased to be able to observe and in some small way participate in the early stages of such an exciting new field.
