Personal background
Hi,

I am a software engineer in Germany. I run an array of
machines at home, which include the following:

- Dual Athlon MP2K
- Dual PII-400
- a couple of Celeron 600Mhz Machines
- Sequent Symmetry 5000 SE30 (10 processors, 2GB Ram)

There are other machines too, but would take too long to
process result sets. (in the moment the Sequent is not
part of the mix as it makes a heat problem in the computer
room).

My areas of expertise are in clustering and device drivers
for FreeBSD. You can visit my website to find out more
about this.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I choose to answer (at least in this moment) question 3

I first found out about SETI a few years ago after
watching the movie "Contact". I found the idea totally
Intriquing (to borrow one of my favorite Star Trek Spock
lines). A few years ago I set my gateway computer to
doing stuff for SETI@home, but it was too slow (AMD
100Mhz 486) and kill the gateway computer. So now with
my much faster environment I am able to process the
results faster.

As far as benefits about Discovery, it's like anything
else. It's about expanding the possibilities for
understanding. Even if we don't find such life existing
elsewhere, the practical preparation for accepting such
ideas will I hope help us live together on this planet.
