Personal background
I'm a 31-year-old software engineer from Seattle, Washington. I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, but lived in Okinawa, Japan for the first few years of my life. I got involved in astronomy from an early age (following the Cosmos series with Carl Sagan on PBS didn't hurt) and have remained fascinated with space science and SETI ever since.

If an extraterrestrial wanted to learn something about me, I'd start by inviting them out for sushi and sake. If they had a problem with eating fish, I'd suggest a vegetarian roll.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My thoughts on the likelihood of extraterrestrial life have changed over the years. For a long time the question was rhetorical--how could extraterrestrials NOT exist? Today, as a working engineer and devotee of science, I've tempered my views somewhat. I remain skeptical, but my enthusiasm for SETI and its goals are as strong as ever.

Radio astronomy events like the "Wow Signal" capture my imagination. Is the Wow signal proof of ETs? Probably not. Is a reason to keep looking? Definitely!

And look we must. "Estimates of the probability of life existing in various places are grossly unreliable but estimates of detectability are generally quite reliable. For all we know, all kinds of things might be out there." (Freeman Dyson)
