I think that it would be arrogant to believe that our kind and our planet holds the only intelligent life in the whole existence of the existence.
So you could say that I do believe in E.T. :)
As far as when I think we will find other life: hopefully soon
Dangers and benefits of discovery? Well danger I think that we should be careful with our fears. Benefits just to know we are not alone on a piece of space dirt would e enough for me imagine the mind puzzles you would think about after discovery and that is just the start.
Should we transmit beacons? I am not to sure on that one, like our kind E.T might have down falls also like war, cruelty and things of a bad nature, and that’s not human fears those are real possibilities anything in the wild on this planet is capable of aggression so why not things of this planet?????
for all we know we might find another planet of humans and they might be just like us and think that we are a threat to them :) or something like that and start launching nukes at us??
What info to send out? I think something simple like, hello is anyone else out there, we are felling a bit lonely here.
Why run seti? I help seti cause I have lots of resources (servers and bandwidth) and that is what seti needs to reach the goal faster. I love seti it’s a project that gives us people (with scientific imaginations that are not stuck on the planet) HOPE.
My suggestions I think the certificates where a great idea I got all mine framed on my computer room wall :) I have one request of seti only, when a signal is discovered of an important candidate name it after the person analyzed the data like when someone discovers a comet.
