Personal background
I'm from the small state of Delaware located on one of the Eastern Penninsulas. Currently I am 17, and a student at Sussex Tech (Nationally recognized school, 3rd ranked highschool out of the US!). Personally, I had played with SETI@Home a VERY long time ago, but its been an interest to me. Astronomy and just "outspace" in general is one of my favorite subjects of all the many forms of science, and I've pondered days in and days out the mystery of "life out there," and in addition to just another species, I also truely wonder about blackholes and "What is beyond the most outer limits of space?" My other interests I love, would be the computer in general, but online gaming would be my knack :-). AOL IM me sometime if you want to talk more, I'll be sure to share some of my vast wisdoms and whatnot!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I feel that extraterrestrial life does exist. Problem being, I believe that we will not discover it for quite a while. We're still improving flight as we know it, as well as space stations, sat. dishes, and much more. Since there is no perfectly efficient machines, we will need to find better sources to do so. There are many benefits to knowledge providing we do find it, but the dangers could be as nominal as nothing all the ways to the extinction of the human race.

2. Humans could send a beacon if they wish, but the problem being is, I dont feel we will be able to keep in contact with it or have any verification of it "getting somewhere." If we were to include information, it couldn't really be expressed as "words" as if another species or (extra)terristal may not be able to decipher it. It should be something simular to pictures... such as Earth's Nature and Beauty, human emotions, and overall suggest signs of happyness and tranquility (although this isn't always the truth, who wants to come to a world of a living hell?).

3. I personally run SETI@Home in efforts to support Berkeley and all forms of science. Every user (no matter how little they process) is contributing to science in his/her own way, and I feel that any support shows a greater level of intellect then the "ordinary" person. This project in itself cannot be accomplished without the help of all the users who willingly contribute a little bit of bandwith every couple hours and CPU power which isn't much to ask. A suggestion I would like to voice, would be to promote more people to participate. There are MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people who don't contribute, that if they had only known about the program they may participate. I've posted a link in every AOL/ICQ profile of mine, and already... roughly 15 asked, in which 5 joined up. Plus, the program isn't asking for much, and even if they are intermittent users, even if it takes 1 month for 1 packet... it is still a contribution that is worthwile to science. ~ Good Luck from Ben! ~
