Personal background
Im 23 from Dublin, Ireland. I've always had an interest in Computing, and hence I am currently working as a Software Engineer. Id much prefer to get involved in something like SETI however. :-)As well as having an interest in Astronomy and the big unanswere questions; back in the world I like big cars, aviation, guitars, travel, music, and much more besides.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think SETI at home is a marvellous idea. It gives anyone with the interest the chance to be involved in something big. I think the number of members signed up is a testiment in itself. Sure enough 95% of them have only submitted a few UNITs but they have had the interest enough to be a part of this.
I think we will find extraterrestrial life at some stage. Whether it will be intelligent is questionable. If the universe were a computer, right now we only assume to know about one key on a keyboard whose use we have no idea of. In fact its probabaly infinetly more complicated than that. I think when you breae it down, most people aren't aware enough of themselves and our purpose yet. We're basically a planet of savages. Ok thats a bit harsh, but we (some of us) are only scraping at the surface of something we know nothing about; but we are scraping. Man has an undefinable yet unexthinguished thirst for discovery; to reach further, to dig deeper, to push whats possible. Existing just isn't enough. Thats what makes us intelligent. We'll get there, all in good time. If we survive this age.
