Profile: Dr. Wendi M. Nichols, Ph.D.

Personal background
I'm a Dr. of Psychology - formerly of So. Cal., now living in Western Nebraska (oh my God!, what have I done?!) I specialize in grief and crisis counseling, so this past 5 years has been full of travel and many people in need. I have a wonderful husband who is an engineer and a son who is an Eagle Scout w/ Silver Palm and just earned his Venturing Silver Award (Yea!) - but he has gone off to the big college now :( - He's double-majoring in CIS and CJ, wants to work cybercrimes for the FBI someday. I have Lupus (which sucks!) and I have been fighting cancer for the past 3 years - I'm on my 2nd run of chemo but stay busy w/ my patients and consulting and by building computers in my spare time (usually when most people are sleeping!). I have a great life! (Just hope it lasts for a bit longer!) Oh, and I LOVE Sci-Fi TV and RPG video games. I would love to join a team that likes FF games and Stargate and Battlestar! Just ask, I'll answer!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
This Seti@Home is COOL! When the govt. shut Seti down, I was appalled. I would prefer my tax dollars pay for this research rather than a $4,000.00 toilet seat for sure! I am sure there is some form of intellegent life out there, we would be ignorant to think that we\\'re the only ones! I run Seti@home to help out however I can. There\\'s lots of highly educated, motivated, and dedicated people that have stuck w/Seti, even when the funding was up in the air. If they can give their time & effort, I can give up a bit of my CPU throughout the day. Besides, it\\'s a cool screensaver that gets my patients talking at some of the worst times in their lives. A beacon?? I couldn\\'t even begin to improve on the message sent out on Voyager, except maybe a copy of the Human Genome Project ? Maybe they can figure us out!
