Personal background
Hello Everyone,

My name is Rai and I live in Orlando, Florida in the United State of America. If for some reason you don't know where Orlando is, I can help you out by saying Orlando is best know for a very popular rodent... Mickey - you know the rest.

I moved to Orlando back in 1994 from Oakland, CA at the ripe old age of 21 (that age where you think you know everything) trying to find a better place. After more than 11 years I can proudly say that I have had a most interesting time here. I have been part of a few amazing projects. The first was called GuardFist I - this was a tank simulator project for the M1A1. I spent 1 year as the Office Manager/Admin Asst and got to learn a lot about the field of simulators and what goes into making them. The second project was the building of the Orange County Courthouse - a $200M complex. Again my skills were used in the Office Management role and I found a new appreciation for construction and respect for the engineering that it takes to construct a modern security building. In the wake of 9/11, I can truly understand why the need for security is an importance in our modern lives.

It is also here in Orlando that I have found the most wonderful person to share my life with. His name is David and truly I am lucky to have him in my life. 4 years have come and gone with him by my side and in my life I always look ahead to the next day knowing he is there with me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
"Why do I run SETI@home?"

I find the very aspect of the entire SETI@Home project to be of great interest to me not just because I think of the universe as a whole realm of possibilities, but because I realize that my ego is not so large to truly believe that we are alone, by ourselves or are the only intelligent lifeforms. And although I don't always run the program I have consistently found myself returning to re-download, install and watch the pretty patterns on my screen. :o)

The other side of the SETI@Home project that I find intersting and compelled to stay a part of is the community aspect. The idea of working with people from around the world toward a common goal, regardless of individual reasons why they take part, amazes me, amuses me (I'm wierd like that) and keeps me coming back. I wish more people would join the project and contribute all of that spare processing time to this great endeavor.

I finally upgraded my Pentium II 400 Mhz after 5 years of dedicated service to a brand new, and much faster Pentium IV 3.0Ghz and one of the thoughts that kept crossing through my mind when I got the new system was "I can't wait to see how much SETI@Home can do once I have that new system." To me that says volumes. I am hoping by the end of the year to move to a dual processor system and give that new system a true work out and use this current system as a dedicated work horse for SETI@home.

Peace to everyone,

Rai - Orlando, FL
