Personal background
Born 27 years ago in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. I'm currently working as a PhD student in science education at Utrecht University, and as a part-time chemistry teacher at th Christelijk Gymnasium Utrecht. I'm a big Star Trek fan, from the episodes of Spock and Kirk, until the last series of Voyager.

Crunching on a PIII 500 128MB Win 98 with setispy and the command-line client . I tweaked my PC with tweakUI, and 98lite, a program which disentangles IE from Win98 decreasing my average workunit crunching time with 40%.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrail life exists. I'm convinced that earth has already been surveyed by an extraterrestrial species. But they didn't consider earth usefull because they live in a liquid hydrogen atmosphere and communicate through blowing bubbles of hydrogen gas. Oxgyen en water are lethal substances for this species, they can't imagine life is possible on this violent and toxic planet.

The SETI software was originally designed as a screensaver. It occurs to me that a lot of people crunch WU's 24/7. Constant crunching in order to raise the chance that you will find ET is OK but think of the extra amount of electricity needed to keep your PC running overnight. It is nice to participate in the search for extrateresstrial intelligence but be intelligent yourself and don't let your PC crunch overnight if otherwise you would have shut it down.

I don't think that the seti@home project will result in the discovery of an extraterrestrial life form, but it is a nice way of keeping the dream alive.

Happy crunching !
