Personal background
Born November 11th 1964 I got my first computer at the age of about 16 after some expieriences with a HP 25. It was a TRS-80. Some people might remember :-) My first software was a tool for my friend (learning carpenter) to print out furniture angles 1:1 without scraps. It runs on a VC-20 :-) Another early one was a control system for a pigsty on a C64. As a computer scientist my job still is my hobby. I love programming as well as gaming. I'm collecting Infocom adventure (what still are the best "games" ever for that technology) but also playing the latest ego shooter or 1503 A.D.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't believe in flying saucers but of course the is extraterristical life in universe. It's far from possible that there's none. It might be not comparable to us and the life forms in Star Trek ARE science fiction. But we should try to find them and will meet them unless we will be able to leave earth before it will be destroyed. Since we have no chance by now to meet them it doesn't matter what kind of information we send. They can decode it or not: They will now we are there. I run SETI@home to support finding them.
