Profile: Rapier

Personal background
I'm a 34 year-old financial planner from Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Ever since I saw Star Wars when I was 6 I have been interested in both Speculative Fiction and scientific exploration.
Many times I've been told that I was born at the wrong time. If you go 500 years in either direction I'd fit in much better. I am the President of the Universal Speculative Fiction Organization, a Minnesota non-profit dedicated to charity work through sci-fi and fantasy...but I've also worked at our Renaissance Festival for several years.
I am married to the most wonderful woman in the world, and have two great children, two snotty cats, and a brat of a Siberian husky for a dog.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Carl Sagan said it best, but to paraphrase: In all the billions planets around all the billions of stars in the billions of galaxies, mankind must be pretty arrogant to believe that we are the only intelligent life in the Universe.
I feel that the SETI@home project is a wonderful example of volunteers coming together to use their separate recourses for a common goal, at a fraction of the cost of a large government funded program.
