Personal background
Sam Leopold was born in New York but grew up along the banks of the Mississippi
in New Orleans, Louisiana. Surrounded by a city of rich culture, unique
architecture, and many talented individuals, it is easy to understand why
Leopold was influenced to pursue a creative lifestyle in the arts.

In Leopold’s earliest years, he always was drawing--usually something surreal
and architectural. By age 9, he was introduced to the medium of oil paints and
by Leopold’s eleventh birthday, he had accumulated several awards in the local
arts shows. His first gallery appearance occurred at age 15 at the prestigious
Gasperi Gallery in the French Quarter.

At age 16, Leopold defeated every high-school art program in southeast
Louisiana to win a place in the United States Capitol Building, through the
Sixth Annual Congressional Art Competition. His painting hung in the Capitol
for two years.

Since 1987, Leopold has exhibited his work in more than 50 competitions and
gallery shows across the country and around the world. Presently, more than
50 of his paintings are in collections in locations including Atlanta, Berlin,
Chicago, Houston, Montreal, New York, and New Orleans.

Leopold now lives in Chicago where he has found a home for his artistic talents
at several local galleries.
