Profile: Matt Watson

Personal background
I'm from Yorkshire, England. I'm a 28 year old project consultant for a web company. From humble beginnings as a hedonistic raver, bumbling about freelance graphics roles for a few years, I wound up in Amsterdam working for a big I.T.company. My wife got pregnant (with a little help from me!) which led to the decision to settle down back in Yorkshire. back to my roots. Living in Harrogate now with 2 fantastic kids and a fantastic wife. Hobbies - geeking out, music, family, TV/Films and playing congas.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

Q&A;[/b]

Do you think extraterrestrial life exists?

Yes. It's easier to believe than not believe.

If so, when and how will humans discover it?

How long is a piece of string ? that's to hard to answer - we (humans) still have a lot of ground to cover. I think the key is when we will be able to 'travel the stars'

What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

possible benefits -Unknown Technology, Cultural, Medical, and General Scientific boundaries will probably be shattered after first contact.

possible dangers -Unknown Technology, Cultural, Medical, and General Scientific boundaries will probably be shattered after first contact.

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find?

Yes.

If so, what information should we send?

We come in peace. Avoid the suits.

Why do you run SETI@home?

What are your views about the project?

I run Seti, because it's a privilege to be part of such a fantastic project. The chance of me actually finding something is very slim... but that's better than none ! On top of that, it's a great screen saver.

Improvements?

It needs more bells and whistles ! more graphs, more views, a picture of the actual sector of sky it's crunching would be cool.
