Personal background
I am your typical computer geek who would like to see the greatest achievement in human history happen in his lifetime. Be it for the greater good or our doom ( doubtful they would want to start a war ) I would like to see alien's contacted or at least their signal picked up.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The question of if life exists on other worlds is rather pointless. Statistically there are appox 10,000 worlds in our galaxy alone that should contain intelligent beings and many millions that contain non intelligent life. The only thing we can do at this point is to see if we can detect any signals or transmisions from those other worlds. I believe in this program for the simple fact that there is billions upon billions of stars in the universe and untold trillions of worlds that signals could be detected from and there is just no way for that much data to be processed without the help of others. My computer usually just sits at home for hours on end doing nothing so why not put it to use doing something worth while?
