| Hi Everybody! I am a 26 year old Student from Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada (approximately 15 minutes outside Vancouver). My hobby (and hopefully career choice) is working with computer systems, specifically Networks and Technical Support. My main interests (besides computers) are reading (nonfiction, usually, but I'm also partial to science fiction) Music, Travelling, and watching movies. |

I truly enjoy being a part of this project for a number of reasons: First, and foremost, there is a sense of pride and accomplishment in actively helping to bring an answer to the fundamentally most exciting question we can ask ourselves: Is there someone else out there? My personal feeling on the existence of extra-terrestrial life is simple: with all of the billions of galaxies and star systems out there, and with all of the trillions of planets surrounding all those stars, it is VERY hard to believe that we are all alone in the universe. I don't believe the law of averages allows for it.
As a computer enthusiast, I am also excited to be a part of this project because of the brilliant idea of using Distributed Computing on such a massive scale. As far as I know, this is definitely a first in scientific research. It's also a testament to the power of the Internet and the idea of the global village: who would have thought 30 years ago that everybody around the world would be able to actually TAKE PART in trying to answer that age-old question?
If nothing else, this project will highlight what is possible when you have the power of the Internet, coupled with the desire of the people that are part of the Internet (face it, it's not JUST computers, people!) to put their minds and machines together to solve some of the most difficult problems, and answer some of the most intriguing questions we have ever known.
Fantastic idea, guys! Let's keep this going, and see where the power of cooperation can truly take us. |
