I'm 55 years old and work as a Maintenance Technician for United Airlines. Computers are a hobby of mine. Originally I started crunching numbers for Seti on an Intel 486 based machine operating at 25 Mhz. Since that time I have added many more computers to the project. I now have 10 computers at home crunching numbers with 5 of the machines P4 class. Each of these machines runs 2 instances of Seti and crank out an average of 17 to 22 Work Units daily. A friend has recently started crunching numbers to help me out.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run Seti because I feel it's a worthwhile project which will at some time find intelligent life elsewhere in the solar system. I would have preferred the project continue as it was originally and not require everyone changing to BOINC. I hope all the work units which I have completed over the last 6+ years will be credited to the new BOINC project when it is fully functional.
