Personal background
I work in the IT field, currently doing hardware/software support as a contractor. I have lived in several places in the US, mostly in the midwest and eastern states. Just about every aspect of my life is somehow involved in computers, although I'm not the stereotypical 'computer geek'. I have built myself a page for summarizing my SETI@Home stats so I can compare my current stats with information starting as far back as the middle of May of 2001. I'll add more here as I think of interesting things to say about myself.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I actually started SETI@Home a couple years back, but at the time I had a slow computer, and the fight for processing time between Seti@Home and the other programs I was too much to deal with. I think I did maybe 10 WU's with the GUI client before giving up. I started again November of 2000, and am now running it on a total of 15 machines. I'm running the CLI on all of them, all P3's of varying CPU speeds. On average I complete about 30 WU's a day.

I believe that we are not alone, but I also believe that we have probably already been contacted, but the governments of the world choose to hide it. I think the SETI@Home project is a good idea in that, if an intelligent signal is located, it might be possible to some day communicate with that civilization. The only problem is, if an intelligent signal is found, the government will probably step in, 'classify' it, and sweep all the evidence under the rug, and noone will ever know.
