Personal background
Currently I am a student of computer science at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) in Germany. I am interrested a lot in science and scientific research. I read a few magazines about computer science and science in general per month and I am always happy to read an article about SETI@Home in those magazines. Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
A few weeeks ago I have seen a report about super computing the Earth Simulator. I was really impressed by the capabilities of this huge data processing center. But no I have read an article about this Earth Simulater. There it was compared with the SETI@home network. The Earth Simulator is the most powerful super computer right now (July 1002) with a performance of 36 TFlops/s. Leading the TOP500 (www.top500.org) supercomputers. As you can check at the SETI@Home site, the SETI network reaches more than 37 TFlops/s and is even better than the most powerful computer on earth. Even if nothing is found by the SETI project - it made possible new potentialities of mankind. And I am glad to be part of this!
