Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes I do believe it exists in one form or other but considering the huge distances in space i believe that a lot of water will flow down the Danube before we will make a contact. There's no hard evidence that the aliens visited us, so if we don't come up wih a huge breaktrough in spacetravel and communication we will meet no aliens. It's more likely that humans from future colonies on Mars could be aliens for us. :)).
Benefits? Huge if they are peacefull otherwise ... i don't know. I believe that until we will make a contact humans in general will accept the ideea. So i don't think it will be a problem from our side. But you never know what interstelar Saddam will arise.

2. Beacon? Of course. I think it should contain information about humans and the level of our tehnology and the understanding of physics in a very simple form.

3. Well this kind of sharing the huge ammount of computing between a lot of users is very good and i wanna help. I hope this program will have a result (see the movie "Contact"). Suggestions....i have one big suggestion but very expensive: to build a huge telescope, bigger than Hubble in space because there's no weather in space (so i heard :) )
