Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life definatly exists. Why wouldn't it? It is rediculious to say that although the universe is huge, we are the only ones enjoying life. Space is the last fronteer. We can only see part of what extends beyond our planet, so how can it be said with any amount of certainty, that we are alone. I believe that there are too many sightings and experiences for there to to not be some truth to the topic.

Truthfully, I believe humans have already discovered the truth. I'm not a conspiracist, but I do believe the government probably has knowledge that they have not shared with any of us "civilians". And, I believe Extraterrestrial have already visited our planet on numerous occasions, and had encounters with humans, probably abducting some of them for whatever reason they may have for doing so. Those people definatly have discovered the truth. It is difficult to say what benefits or dangers may come of a world-wide discovery, but I believe, as long as extraterrestrials are benevolent towards us, that the benefits could be great. Perhaps they could teach us a better way to conserve energy, travel through space, cure diseases and other physical defects, manage government, and solve our social problems. Or, who knows, our discovery could be similar to the great battle fough in "Independance Day", with Will Smith and David Goldblum (my Hollywood crush at the age of 13!)

Should we transmit a message... Why not? Perhaps if we send a message into space (hopefully, one alien life will be able to interpret), it will show that we are interested in contact, and want that contact to be friendly. If they know our intentions of a "friendship", they may be more willing to help our civilization advance, and less likely to attack us, blowing up the world's major cities and engaging in offensives with the United States Marine Corps' figher jets.

I run SETI@home because the chances of finding a signal are more likely if more people are looking. I'm just another person to improve the probability.
