1) yes. We'll discover it when extraterrestrial life wants us to be discovered. The benefits and dangers are as yet unknown simply because we don't even know who or what is out there and what their intentions are. If we could ever learn to be at peace just within our planet, maybe the process of being able to see who's out there could get expedited.
2) We could feasibly send a signal out there, but could we even generate one with enough strength to reach out across the infinite number of galaxies out there fast enough that our planet wouldn't be ancient history before it got heard. As to what info we would send, send them re-runs of M*A*S*H :)
3) I run it because i believe that there is life out there somewhere and it's just waiting for us to get our act together enough for us to be able to deal with it intelligently |
