Personal background
Hi,

I am a Norwegian living in London, UK. I have a background in computing and have worked with computers for the last 20 years or so. I have taken part in several Distributed Computing projects since Christmas of 2001, among them GIMPS, Eccp109, Distributed Folding and Seti@home. There are still more projects out there that I want to try out :-)

Some people that get bit by the DC bug manage to keep at least some sense of reality. Well, I didn't. I began with one machine, but that was not enough. I then started to build dedicated crunching machines for the projects, not ordinary machines, but two Monsters. Large beasts with a large number of processors, dedicated to running DC projects 24/7/365. The largest of these is the Prime Monster that was built to run GIMPS, the smaller is the Seti Monster. In reality both machines can run any DC project, they are just better at their intended tasks.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My personal view is that somewhere out there ET is alive and well. Is he/she/it trying to communicate, well that is another question alltogether. Probably depends a lot on their worldview - are they a scared lot or are they an all-conquering species.

I run SETI@home because I wanted see if I could build a dedicated and cheap cruncher for this purpose.
