Greetings,
my name is Pluk and I'm a member of the wizardguild on Discworld MUD. It is a long story how I manage to participate in this Roundworld* project but I'm using a variety of Macs to crunch the numbers.
*The Discworld is flat and carried through space on the back of a giant turtle. We know of Roundworld due to a obscure and short lived science project (Read 'The Science of Discworld'). |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

One thing people seem to assume when you mention participation in the SETI@home project is that you 'believe' in UFO's, alien abduction and the like.
I do not 'believe' in aliens hanging around on our planet and doing weird things to cows. I think people who see UFO's are highly susceptible people, the same type that would have seen visions of jesus or one of his cronies if they'd lived about a hundred years ago. However, though I don't have much scientific background on this (so much to do and so little time ;)), it seems like it would be a major fluke if we were to be the only planet with intelligent life such as we define it. The universe, be it a quite amazing place, doesn't seem all that keen on one off events.
Frankly, I feel we should make our home planet a better place than it currently is before we go out there but if anyone out there would be trying to reach us I for one would be thrilled to know. |
