Profile: Allen Farley

Personal background
I'm located near Logan, West Virginia. It is located in the south-western region of the state. The area is rural and mountainous, providing viewing area of approximately 30 degrees from zenith. Viewing objects near the horizon are of course out of the question without a good hike to the top of a mountain.

I am currently employed at Southern West Virginia Community & Technical College, as an Information Systems Specialist. I have been involved in electronics and computing field beginning around 1979. I have enjoyed looking up at the night sky for as long as I can remember trying to figure out the patterns of the stars from charts. I do very little active observing now, but I still enjoy looking up at the night sky on my way home.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe we have a great many problems just on this planet to still solve and impliment the solutions. I just don't think transmitting a beacon would be a very good idea. Jumping into shark infested water is bad enough without splashing yourself all over with fresh blood first!

I do think extraterrestrials do exist. I hope we know of them long before they know of us. This would give the world time to understand the implications. It may very well shake the very foundations of many religions. Some life may very well be similiar in purpose to those in the movie Independence Day.

Of course there is a quote from Aldous Huxley (1894-1963) "Maybe this world is another planet's Hell."
