Personal background
I'm 33 years old and I'm from Schramberg - it's a small city in Germany in the Black Forest. I'm interested in astronomy since my youth and this was the reason to do a technical study. Now I'm ingenieur and program software for measuring systems. So I'm very interested in the methods to analyze a measuring signal.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The probability of other life somewhere in space is very high but at the moment the distances between the stars and galaxies is too big to get respectively do a effective communication. Perhaps in some centuries it's possible to communicate in other dimensions.

Because I'm at home in the measuring technique, I have the opinion, that there are surely many possibilities to optimize the code for the calculation of the desired analyses. Because most users have a PC, the FFT routine should use e.g. the optimized FFT routine from Intel (free Intel Lib, dll). This is at the moment the fastest FFT, which I know (10 times faster as any other known routines). This would fact, that much more results per time unit can be calculated.
