Profile: Floobi

Personal background
My name is Florian Obermeier. Although I am still a student, I am already married.
(Once you fight the right one, do not let go of her!). Studying electronics / communication engineering (in Munich/ Germany) I have a lot to do with computers (and radio...). I have a Duron 600 and bought a 800 MHz laptop recently (whenever you work as a student, spent the money; there will be plenty of time for saving money after your graduation ;-) ).
I like soccer and skiing, love my wife, enjoy living in a students hostel.
The world famous town of Garmisch- Partenkirchen in Bavaria is where I am born
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Being a huge Star Trek fan, I like the naive idea of a women and men living a peacefull live on the quest for new knowledge. Most likely that is as idealistic and unreal as Marx' visions, that sounded so great, but did not work at all and never will! So let's look for somebody out there, who might be more intelligent and already live in peace, supported by a incredible technology, that wins over hunger and poverty.
Somebody is out there! I do not see a reason for sending a beacon. Where to? We humans have more to hide than to be proud of! If some extraterrestrials are so far developed, that they could visit us, they will find us.
Seti at home is a great idea. When a computer runs, mostly it does not have much to do. So why not use it for something interesting. But only if nobody tries to make money out of it! That is the case for seti.
