Personal background
I'm a 22 year old taking computer science or economics or english (depending on the year) at St Francis Xavier university! I play a few dozen collectable card games and a group of us at the university are well known (not necessarily well known in a good way) for Magic: The Gathering AT the university.
I go bowling, I go to church, I work for the military reserves, and that's probably just about it.
Oh, and I play computer games. Lots of them.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm almost certain that extraT life exists. Life happened here, why not somewhere else? They're thinking that there WAS life on mars, showing two places IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM that may have or have had life. That and ET life is probably more likely to find US then we are them.
Possible benefits of finding such life would be the technological advances that we would be able to make either sharing technology, or if theirs was significantly advances, aquiring their technology.
Dangers. Ever watch Independance Day?

Transmitting a beacon might draw ET to our planet. It's hard to say. With all the crap we're transmitting now, who says they wouldn't be able to find their way here anyhow? As for information to send, our atmospheric mix would be one thing. Mathematical equations explained in graphical terms would be good as well.

I run SETI@home for the chance to help and find ET life. Simple as that.
The project may or may not yield results, but we can hope.

Oh hey. Those were SUGGESTABLE topics. WHOOPSIE! :D
