Personal background
I used to be a rock 'n' roll musician and actor, but I decided I want to do other things in life--like eat. After 15 years as a telecommunications manager, I decided to go back to my first love, which is writing. Today, I write and edit books and magazines for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. Hey, if a Pennsylvanian makes the historical SETI discovery, I will be writing about him or her! I also write privately, and I'm working on two books of fiction, one loosely based on personal experiences in southeast Asia, and the other is a new twist on romance and time travel. I also enjoy spending time with my wife, son, lovebird, pink Rosie Borque paraqueet, dog, and the newest member of the family, a formerly stray, deaf Siamese cat that belonged to my late mother. I'm convinced that this kitty, the sweetest cat I've ever met, was left in the middle of a rural Texas road by a friendly UFO. I'm trying to learn to sign in paw.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It is incredibly arrogant to believe that humans are the only intelligent life in the universe (and lately I've questioned the existance of intelligent life on this planet). Seriously, here is an analogy. If you had no education and came to the shore line of the ocean for the first time and looked out at the vast horizon of the ocean you might wonder if anything lives out there. If you did not see anything living in the water, would you conclude there is no life in the ocean? With the universe, it is quite similar. We are quite primitive in our knowledge and in our ability to see living organisms or beings. SETI is our fishing line looking for the first nibble. If we do not drop the line in the water, we will never catch a fish! Our future survival as a species will depend on advancing our technology and reaching out to find livable planets.
