Personal background
....ok....usual stuff...Mike Michelko, 43, currently living at 51d 26m N,2d 0m W , UK for those not into map-reading !
Only got my pc in May, 2nd hand & pretty old from my brother-in-law...Always been interested in Space, Astronomy, etc, so joined Seti@home the following month. My pc has only a 100MHZ processor, but I still manage to churn out about 1 WU a week / 113 hrs on average....I have been known to stay up late to wait for the WU to complete, so I can log onto the net, upload it and receive the next WU to save a bit of time...sad or what !
PS> I have just started a group called '100hours ' ....anybody who's pc takes at least 100 hours to process one Work Unit...come and join ! ( You still keep your individual stats on the day that you joined SETI@Home, but they are also credited to the group, and you get to join a small and select community ! )feel free to Email...All the best.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
If we, as a species, only receive one positively identifiable message from another civilization during our time on Earth, I will be satisfied that there has been and will be many intelligent species in the cosmos.
Seeing how badly we are treating the earth, poisoning our air and water supply, not to mention the population growth, I would be pleased if we saw in the next Millenium.
If, during that 1000 years ( and hoping that it's sooner rather than later !) we receive just the one notice of shared occupancy of this Galaxy, it would make the night sky a little less impersonal...even if they are only complaining about the noise.....
