Personal background |
Living on the SW edge of Portland affords me no real opportunity to crank my neck back and wait for the show to begin. I have a couple telescopes but my 10x50 binocs are quick and easy for night viewing.
As with many, all those science fiction books in the 7th, 8th & 9th grades were the precursor to this life of knowing, but not seeing or hearing our intergalactic cousins - YET!
Should I have to later depart this orb with no positive physical evidence, I will bask in the knowledge that we SETI searchers took the Gaussians by the horns and cut an electronic swath through this galaxy.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Yeah, we are just doing the electronic equivalentof banging a hammer on a pipe at this point, but in 30, 75, 225 years we might really know how to establish the link. That will either be the best or worst day in the history of terran man.
Too bad we can't recall all the electronic junk we have allowed to float off this planet. I doubt any recieving entity would be impressed. |
