Personal background
I'm a student at the University of Minnesota, working on my 7.5 year '4 year degree'. I figure I'll graduate when they make me! The major I'm in is 'Natural resource Management and Environmental Studies - Environmental Assessment and Monitoring'.

I got involved with SETI from a post on a 'MUD' that I play on, NannyMUD. MUD stands for Multi-User-Domain, and is basicaly a multi-user (in this case) fantasy based text adventure. While I'm hugely outclassed by the others in packet-time, it's still fun to try to get up in the top 20 Nannymudders...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
As a kid, I was one of the many 'Young NASA' club types, and as soon as I discovered science fiction, I was trying to figure out a way that I could get involved with a space program that would let me go see other planets. Well, obviously the government is not taking applications for colonists or terraformers at the moment, but I have hopes for private initatives such as SETI and the X-Prize contest. Perhaps someday I'll get to see other skies...

I have a firm conviction that other life exists. I don't know if it will be discovered in a fashion that will let us reach the planets in my time, but even a far away voice could give the 'space race' a well needed kick in the behind.

I think we should do our utmost to find other life, because spiritually, humans seem to need a horizon to look off to. We need a dream, a goal to unite us. Hopefully it will be a peaceful one.
