Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Extraterrestrial Life?
Just the sheer number of stars and galaxies, and the potential that exists for them to have planets that could support life tends to give hope to the quest of finding someone intelligent out there. One only need consider that we are here, and have sort of proved that it can be done.
Beacon?
Why not. The risks are low, and it's only fair. We're hoping that they have a beacon. The chance that a civilization perhaps thousands of light years away is going to have some kind of military ambitions, and would pose a threat seems pretty silly. I think the best we can hope for is discovery of a beacon belonging to someone else, and, if we are lucky, and can live long enough, a small exchange of howdy-doo's. |
