Personal background
I love computers and am fascinated with space and the exploration of it. Some of my favorite TV shows are all of the Star Trek series' and as for movies Star Trek and Star Wars are top of my list. I work on computers all day long and then I go home and work on them some more. I have been a "geek" for as long as I know and even my wife refers to me as such.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I know there are other people out there. I base this on two reasons, the first is strictly religious so I won't go into that. The second can be summed up in a quote from the movie Contact, "...if it is just us, then is seems like an aweful waste of space." I am a dreamer by nature and so the limitations of our current technology do not limit my own dreams of someday zooming through space at "warp speed" and discovering the mysteries of the universe.

As far as listening for Extra Terrestrial communications or any signs of intelligent life out there, I think that if anyone else out there wanted to communicate with us, we would have no problem hearing them. So the lack of communication suggests to me that we aren't quite ready to be contacted. That won't stop me from processing packets because I also enjoy the thrill of trying to up my rank.

Still, I think we have a lot to do here amongst ourselves before we start communicating with other people. Most importantly, we need to start listening to what people down here on this planet have to say. The lack of communication and understanding on this planet is indicated in the unrest, wars and moral degradation which is rampant. Not only that, but we have yet to go back to our own moon and establish a presence there. We still have some years of advancing to go.

Still, the hope that perhaps ETI will tell us how to move ahead quicker keeps my machines pumping through those units.
